"Faces" David Bingley
Visit the official contest site.
Faces is in some ways a fusion of A.D.D., lust and self evaluation. That's an almost humorous interpretation, yet there are other levels that are perhaps more subtle. Call it a self portrait, a cereal or better yet cerebral slice of life if you will. An idol thought, a moment in time, a a metaphoric look at an artists hope for the future of dreams that are dancing in front of him like a tease. One could say that it almost transcends the thoughts of one artist, but possibly many. As we all have aspirations as a child, life seems to chip away at reducing those visions of paradise to the eventual barriers of pragmatic reality. The nude figures represent energy, excitement, or maybe even the youthful hopes of naive, but pure enthusiasm toward the hopeful fate of an artistic Nirvanna. The door that might as well be a wall, represents the rejection of doors slamming in the face of creative dreams, only guiding doubt. Condensed, faces is the human struggle, imagination, hope and the obstacles that try to stop it. Then again maybe I just had too much free time, thinking of naked ladies when I should have been looking for a job.
